  BAKER

EDMUND BAKER came in the Charity or Swan to Wessagussett   in June or July, 1622, in Weston's Company. He was one of the  "four men which escaped" to Christopher Levett's plantation in 1623 and related to him the condition of Weston's Colony. He came from Newton Ferrers in Devonshire and "dwelt at the house at Casko with Thomas Alger about 10 yeares past" (1630). (Trelawny Papers, 251.) He was one of the men "that did know the River of Casco before [Trelawny's] pattent was granted." (Ibid. 250.) Winter did not know whether he was living 7 Oct. 1640.

BARKER

JOSEPH BARKER and his wife Ruth - - were called, in the will of Dorothy (Hunt) King of Weymouth, made 14 June, 1652, "my
son" and "my daughter," the former being made executor of said will. The testator was the wife of John King, seaman, of Weymouth, and formerly the wife of Enoch Hunt of Weymouth, 1639 to 1647. The testator had a daurhter, Sarah Hunt, born at Weymouth, 4 July, 1640, unmarried on 14 Julie, 1652, and another daughter called Susannah Heath on the last-named date. It is evident that Susannah Heath was, on 14 July, 1652, the wife of Peleg Heath of Roxbury. Children of Pclc,, and Susannah Heath, born and baptized at Roxbury, were Susannah, bp. 5 Dec. 1652; Hannah, b. 23 Dec. 1654; Abigail, b. 10 Oct. 1658; Joseph, b. 23 and bp. 30 Dec. 1660, d. in a few days; Mehitable, b. 7 Feb. and bp. 9 Mar. 1662; William, b. 30 Jan., and bp. 6 Mar. 1664; Joseph, 2d, b. 6, and bp. 16 Sept. 1666, d. 1674; Peleg, b. 18 Sept., and bp. 22 Nov. 1668; Dorothy, b. 18 Dec. 1670. Peleg, the father, was buried 18 Nov. 1671. He was the son of William Heath, and came from London with his father's family in the Lion, arriving 16 Sept. 1632.

Was Dorothy (Hunt-King) the mother of Joseph Barker or of Ruth, his wife?

Dorothy Barker was admitted to the First Church of Dorchester before 4 Nov. 1639. (See Register, 5: 239.) She was probably the
mother of Joseph Barker, and three times a widow.
